Privacy policy

Short version: what you do on your computer stays on your computer. We can't see it, and we don't want to.

What Trailback keeps track of

Only on your computer, Trailback notes:

Banking, health and password apps and websites, and sign-in pages, are skipped automatically. You can add your own apps, websites and folders to skip.

What Trailback never does

It never records your screen or takes screenshots by itself. It never sees what you type. It never saves passwords. It never looks at private (incognito) browser windows.

Where your information is kept

In a locked (encrypted) file on your own computer. The key that unlocks it is kept in your computer's own password store (Keychain on Mac, Credential Manager on Windows). We don't upload, copy or back up any of it.

Exact location — Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Trailback · Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Trailback

The only two times Trailback goes online

  1. Checking your license key — when you first unlock Trailback, and about once a week after that. It sends only your key and a random code for your computer (not its name or anything about you) to our payment partner, Dodo Payments.
  2. Checking for updates — it looks at a small file on trailback.app to see if there's a new version. Nothing about you is sent.

There's no tracking, no ads, and no analytics in the app. This website (not the app) uses Google Analytics to count visits. It never sees anything from the Trailback app.

When you buy

Dodo Payments handles the payment and tax for us. They share your email address and license details with us so we can help you with your purchase. We never see your card details.

Deleting your information

In Trailback's Settings you can delete one item, a whole day, everything from one app or website, or everything at once. When you uninstall Trailback, it offers to delete everything too. Deleted means gone for good.
